Airwaves Missing: Jeff and Jer Showgram Day 169 | DSC Day 33 | Halloran Day 33
Thank you for making SDRadio part of your broadcast day. This report made in VistaVision and shot on Kodachrome.

Mikey show hit the radio stage on Monday — and like a breath of fresh air — had many dial spots turning to fm 94/9. While Mikey took over the morning show, no on air talent was lost — except for Mike Halloran the first of January.
It’s About The Music and it’s about the morning — it’s about the morning share which still reigns supreme over the radio land. As the crew gets comfortable with the new studio, there is adventures in good morning radio.
December was a tough month on the radio skyline as Rock 105.3, 101.5 KGB changed their morning show. While much remains to be played out with Jeff and Jer and Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw, and Mike Halloran returning to the airwaves, safe bets are when … not “if” they return. Hopefully that “when” will be in San Diego for all concerned.
The San Diego market’s next door north neighbor had some changes last year — and in conversations with Jhani Kaye of CBS Radio last weekend, he reminded me that one of his stations has more listeners than the entire San Diego market. Not a slam at our community, it’s just that Los Angeles is HUGE.
Despite the rough waters over the air here recently, radio remains the go-to place when calamity happens. That little earthquake early this week? No doubt there was an instant tune to LOCAL radio. As the Five W’s and the H were worked on, the city was safe — and nerves calmed by the primary source: radio.
This is where local talent reigns supreme. There is a push by two national companies to replace local talent with far away hosts. Imagine the shock to our ears when those folks mispronounce “La Jolla”, “Jacumba”, or “Encinitas”. It’s encouraging that CBS, and Lincoln Financial, with headquarters far, far east of here — have not replaced the live local hosts with far away voices.
Then there’s the return to local hosts on Rock 105.3. Clint August and Missi are live and local — call ‘em. Yep, that’s Clint, and that’s Missi driving the rock music.
Who knows what the future will bring with radio as the business model of five years ago, three years ago — and last year — are an ever changing model that has one goal: keep the stations on air and be profitable. If there is a prime directive, that’s it: Keep the stations on air and be profitable.

OK, so you are considering a pet and are smitten with the ones in the malls. Before you spend an excessive amount of money for a puppy mill or kitty mill pet from the midwest — please consider adopting a Rescue Dog or Cat. I have had two rescue senior dogs. Elvis was a great dog and had a wonderful 11-months with me before going to the Rainbow Bridge. Currently, I’m blessed with Buddy. Senior dogs come house trained in most cases — and know they are lucky to be alive. If you want more info on my experience, please contact me at (760) 536-8605 or (619) 663-8074.
