Report: Jerry Coleman “OK” after fall

10 April 2010

Update: 4 p.m.: Padres announcer Jerry Coleman fell in Denver and is OK. Reports from Denver said the veteran Padres announcer is slated to be back at the microphone tonight. He is at Coors Field for the 5 p.m. (Pacific) broadcast.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Jerry’s attending doctor in Denver had “San Diego ties” and recognized the 85-year old veteran. See Chris Jenkins blog.

From Dave Smiley: “I was just walking back to my hotel here in Denver and saw a older man fall down on the street. I thought maybe it was a homeless man, but after further research found out it was Jerry Coleman – the play by play announcer for the Padres. He is know for his phrase “oh doctor!” … the paramedics arrived and he was whisked… off to the hospital.”

Part of Dave’s group was a registered nurse. It is believed that he called 911 and the nurse gave attention to Jerry until the paramedics arrived.

(Dave is a former KFMB-FM host and is based in Indianapolis. He posted via Facebook.)
