KKOS-FM, based in Carlsbad at 95.9 FM was a trendsetter in the AAA format.

Broadcasters for years relied on one clock, the famed Western Union clock that was known for its precise time keeping. The clocks were the mainstay at stations coast-to-coast.
Shotgun Tom Kelly found a clock for Jeff Prescott. Gilbert Smith had the clock repaired locally in San Diego — and last Saturday night was presented with the vintage time piece.
They were over 15,000 of their clocks in circuit, which were synchronized daily by the telegraphic time signals from the service of the United States Naval Observatory at Washington D.C.
