The Birthday Bash marks another successful year for Sophie@103.7 whose inception on June 22, 2007 brought a new, modern adult contemporary radio station to the San Diego market. Sophie@103.7 is on the forefront of new music and features a mix of today’s most popular alternative sounds. Sophie@103.7’s programming delivers a fresh combination of eclectic music from the mainstream hits and new songs from up-and-coming artists.
The Goo Goo Dolls are comprised of John Rzeznik, Robby Takac and Mike Malinin. They have become one of the most globally respected and influential forces in popular music history, selling more than 10 million albums since 1986.
The band had an unprecedented string of 14 consecutive Number One and Top Ten multi-format hit singles including “Name,” “Slide,” Black Balloon,” Broadway,” “Here Is Gone,” “Big Machine,” “Sympathy,” “Stay With You,” “Before It’s Too Late,” “Jim’s Theme” (Treasure Planet),” and “Better Days,” which, due to its uplifting lyrical spirit, was adopted by CNN as an music bed anthem of sorts for the news channel’s Hurricane Katrina recovery coverage. “Iris,” from the City Of Angels soundtrack, spent nearly 12 straight months on the Billboard charts and held the Number One position for 17 consecutive weeks. The Goo Goo Dolls will be touring in support of their ninth studio album, Something for the Rest of Us. Written and recorded over the past couple of years, the album delivers another dose of great Goo songs such as “Sweetest Lie,” “One Night,” and “Soldier.”
The Southern California native, Angel Taylor’s debut album, entitled Love Travels was released on iTunes on March 31, 2009 through Aware/Columbia Records. Her song “Make Me Believe” has also been offered as the iTunes single of the week. Packing a melodic sensibility that is undeniable and engaging, Taylor’s latest release “Like You Do” and “Make Me Believe” follow down more traditional pop avenues, propelled by buoyant strides and an artful, invigorated bounce.
Taylor was featured as one of VH1’s You Oughtta Know: Artists On The Rise in 2010. Talking with Angel about the passionate swirl of her debut release, Love Travels, the 21 year-old singer-songwriter is quick to share stories about her inspirations, but those stories fast become secondary to the true magic of her talent as a songwriter: “Anyone who has ever wanted to be loved very deeply by someone, but hasn’t, will totally be able to grab hold of these songs,” says Taylor. “That’s what this album is about – wanting it so bad, not having it, and wondering why… It’s a lot of questions.”
