Compass Points: Where are the call letters now?

One time, KKLQ was on AM and FM in San Diego. At AM 600 and 106.5, the station was home to Jeff and Jer and a leading Hot AC station.

Today, the call letters KKLQFM are found in Harwood, North Dakota, at 100.7 MHz. In San Diego, 106.5 is KLNV - La Nueva 106.5.

KPOP-AM 1360 was the home of adult standard music. Featuring Happy Hare, Jerry G. Bishop and Ken Copper & Cynthia Heath-Kerrigan the station set the standard for good time favorite music.

Today, the call letters are at KPOP-FM 107.7 FM, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, near Tulsa. In San Diego, XTRA Sports 1360, KLSD is the home of sports talk radio.

KJQY-FM had several stops in San Diego. Westinghouse (Group W) had the call letters at 103.7 in 1979. The call letters were taken down, and the came up on 102.9 FM when Gannett sold the station to CitiCasters during the great radio buys in the 90s.

KJQY would up at 94.1 FM and was a soft AC station.

Today, KJQY has a new home in Colorado City, Colorado. It’s known as KJQY at 103.3 MHz. The station is expected to be on the air soon — and at 100,000 watts.

KPLN was a classic hits station in San Diego. Known as “Planet FM” the station was heard as an alternative to KGB-FM. Today, the Planet lives on in Lockwood, Montana. KPLN is at 106.7 FM.

KOZN was call letters of 103.7 at one time. Today, it’s at KOZN-AM 1620 in Bellevue, Nebraska.

KMJC was Magic 91 AM. Today the call letters are at AM 620 in Mount Shasta. Locally, KECR-AM, a Family Radio station, is located in the northern part of Lakeside.

KPRI-FM were the call letters for the station known as Capri-by-the Sea at 106.5 FM. The home of Rod Page, and others, the station became progressive rock, and one of the first radio homes of Gabriel Wisdom, Fred Nurk, Dana Jones, Joe Chandler and others.

Today, 102.1 Encinitas is the home of the legendary call letters. It is San Diego’s only locally single owned and operated station.
