Starting in about 16 days, Dave Rickards puts his band back together and returns to the radio at 100.7 Jack FM. Their last live show was Dec. 18, 2009 and after a few weeks of playing best of shows because of the holiday, the unthinkable happened. Clear Channel dropped them from their home and took them off the air after nearly 20 years.
In the disbelief with their legion of fans wanted only one thing in life: to hear them loud and proud on the way to work. They also wanted the Summer Song to start their day — and missed Chris Boyer‘s recap of history before Dave hit the theme to Hawaii Five-O. It was time marks that the work day started — and the weekend was knocking.
Since then, rumors came, and went then the realization that San Diego may not have DSC anymore. That all changed last month when Dave asked on Facebook what were you doing on July 12. Although outside forces played a part and prevented a launch on Monday — the radio skyline will explode on August 2 as the DSC returns to the airwaves.
Added bonus: The get to join long time radio icon and friend Jim McInnes.
As promised, the entire crew will be on the morning airwaves. That includes Shelly Dunn, Cookie Chainsaw Randolph, Chris Boyer, Ruth 66, and Emily Maguire will pick up where the left all last year. Giving San Diego listeners the quality entertainment they have grown to love over the last 19 years. Shelly is under contract with Clear Channel Communications until December and will rejoin the morning show then.
Who knows, perhaps they’ll last another 19 plus years at 100.7 FM. Stay Tuned.

John Van Zante puts his life on the line every year to prove a point. With the summer heat in force this week, it doesn’t take long for the car to rice to record temperature. As demonstrated at the Helen Woodward Animal Center yesterday, John was joined by CBS 8′s Jeff Zevely.
John proves the point of to never leave a pet alone in the car no matter how long you may run an errand. Temperatures in the vehicle — even with windows opened — can rise to 140 degrees and cause a painful death to your pet.

Chris Cantore is kicking afternoons in style. A recent addition to the station, he brings a wealth of experience to a solid station devoted to AAA music. Although it’s really hard to pin it down to the format, KPRi-FM 102.1 is a perfect fit. (Madison starts the morning and I challenge your years to the interviews he has done.)
Chris can be heard from 3 to 7 p.m., weekdays offering his insights and music choice in the afternoon. While not a wacky morning show he did at 91X, Chris is handcrafting a music education show and giving insight to all things in tune with the audience.
Added bonus: Wednesday, the station is playing old fashion vinyl records and hear full fidelity along with pops and clicks. A splendid time for your ears.

Shotgun Tom Kelly joins Mark Larson after 8:30 a.m., this morning on KCBQ-AM 1170. Topic of discussion: KCBQ Monument update!!
DEADLINE NEARS FOR KCBQ MONUMENT NAMES
The committee in charge of erecting the KCBQ monument has announced a deadline of August 1st for any names to be included on the monument. The monument will be erected at the site of the old KCBQ AM 1170 transmitter location at 9416 Mission Gorge road in the San Diego suburb of Santee, California.
During the top 40 era KCBQ AM 1170 was one of the best known and most imitated stations in the country. The studios, transmitter and towers were torn down and replaced by a shopping center in 2003. The station now broadcasts from another location.
Engraved on the monument will be the names of the air personalities who worked at the station during its top forty days from 1958 to 1978. If you were one of those personalities or know of someone who should be included, please send that information to “Shotgun Tom” Kelly at shotgunt@aol.com .
The KCBQ AM 1170 monument is scheduled to be unveiled on Saturday, August 28th at 11:70AM (12:10PM) at 9416 Mission Gorge Road in Santee.
