Not a good day for those at Broadcast Company of the Americas yesterday. The man who had the vision of bringing sports radio back to the market, John Lynch was replaced in a power move by equity holders of the stations.
Replacing John is Larry Patrick who has a record with radio. He is the co-owner of a leading brokerage group, and 14 stations located in Wyoming, Ohio, and Missouri.
So, the obvious answer to a question of “What’s going on?” is that Larry was brought on to right a ship in a terrible financial storm. As much as the Padres are a marque for XX 1090, it is a financial drain on BCA with partners Viejas Enterprises and JMI Equity. With the Veijas and JMI Equity having over 50-percent ownership of the company, John was replaced — fired — from the company he founded.
The new CEO has an impressive record with radio. From his Maryland base, he is also in charge of “Patrick Communications“. This is a leading brokerage and investment banking firm located in Elkridge, Maryland. They are a full service firm offering media, tower and telecom brokerage, restructuring, investment banking, appraisals and management and financial consulting services.
That’s a company with a proven track record to right a troubled company out of similar financial storms. One thing to note is that his company, over the last fifteen years have negotiated or appraised media transactions valued in excess of $6.5 billion and executed billions of dollars in telecommunications and tower transactions with the leading U.S. carriers.
Noted: John’s daughter, Kara, a Sales Manager for BCA, also exited the company on Monday.
The current business plan, as of today, is that the ship is sailing with all crew on board and accounted for. Stay tuned.

Yesterday, the August PPM was released at 2 p.m. — and as expected, Jack FM starts its march up the ratings pile. In June, KFMB-FM, checked in with a 2.5 share — and in August after the start of the DSC Show on Jack, the share rose to 4.6.
The station is tied with KOGO, and is the fifth most listened to station in the market.
The impact has been huge since Midwest TV brought in DSC for the morning drive. Stay Tuned.
