Election Day 2010

2 November 2010

Today is election day, a right to help frame our government locally and nationally. Take all those voter guides from the newspaper, TV and hosts and throw ‘em away. Part of your responsibility is to make your own decision when casting a ballot.

The best source for immediate results is right on your radio dial.

KPBS-FM will start extensive coverage of the events. “On Election Night, KPBS News will have live results and in-depth analysis of local, state and national races. Follow the action throughout the night at KPBS.org, and listen to KPBS FM 89.5 for updates and live reports from San Diego’s campaign headquarters.”

San Diego’s public radio station has been increasing its news offering in the market. KPBS will broadcast NPR’s Election Special beginning at 5 p.m.

KOGO-AM 600 continues its legendary coverage starting at 4 a.m. It’ll kick off with Gordon Deal as he hosts The Wall Street Journal This Morning.

Cliff Albert writes that “Election updates all day long, every half hour and as news breaks from 5am to 8pm…when polls close.

* 5a-9a Chip Franklin Election Morning Show featuring latest news, man-on-the-street interviews, polls, news maker guests and your calls.

* 9a-Noon Rush Limbaugh has latest developments as voters head to the polls across the country

* Noon-3pm LaDona Harvey hosts Election Day 2010, featuring voter interviews, election and ballot information and early exit polling

* 3pm-6pm Roger Hedgecock broadcasts live from Las Vegas, as the nation watches one of the biggest races, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid tries to fight off a strong challenge from Tea Party candidate Sharon Angle.

* 6pm-8pm Chris Reed on Top Story with all the early election results as they come in from around the country…and what voters in San Diego County are saying at the last minute.

* 8pm-Midnight Election Night Results….Live from San Diego Election Central at the Community Concourse downtown with KOGO’s Cliff Albert, Steve Yuhas, Phil Farrar and Party Lane along with Scott Lewis from Voice of San Diego, and featuring live interviews with the winners and losers as the results come in. Live reports from Fox News from around the state of California and from around the country.

1170 KCBQ brings in the experience of Mark Larson at 6 a.m. He’ll return in the evening as Rick Amato and Mark report from downtown San Diego.

In all examples, the stations are expected to keep local coverage going in case of contested results.
