On Saturday, despite the rain, and the San Diego cold, nearly 2,000 friends, family, and fellow riders went to Kearney Mesa Harley-Davidson to honor those who died in a tragic accident in Imperial County. (Photo from Stephen Prendergast.)
Program Director Shauna Moran, hosts Coe Lewis, B.C, and Clint August all jumped on board to make a weekend event for the motorcycle club an overall success.
New York Myke, owner of the dealership, told me that the event was just going to be a “blood drive to help replace those units used and for the upcoming needs.” It blossomed when the four KGB hosts stepped up and soon it became a remote broadcast that help push the crowd to the limits of the building the motorcycle dealership is in.
Even with the rain coming down, the celebration of life had more tears falling than rain drops as those rejoiced on the good times and helped out over the events last week. (Photo: Jimmy Valentine)
The blood mobile was booked Saturday and Sunday. Money was taken in for the families to help meet expenses. The unfortunate tasks of burying the riders had many questions but the community pulled together as the helping hand was extended.
Clint told SDRadio that the crowd on hand was well beyond expectations, and the rain did little to turn away. While parking was at a premium, no one seemed to mind the rain while walking.
Coe was live from 10 to noon, and Clint was on until 3 p.m.
Clint’s monthly ride in December will also be dedicated to the Saddle Tramps club. See the 101.5 KGB web site for more information.
Despite the circumstances for the event to be held, a good time was had by all. New York Myke said that the weekend before Thanksgiving the blood drive will be held at the dealership and he hopes to make this one rival the large drives in the county.
