Gayle Lynn Falkenthal, APR, President of the Falcon Valley Group (FVG), has won four first place awards, one second place and one third place award in the 37th Annual San Diego Press Club Journalism Awards for excellence in journalism, column writing and radio broadcasting.
Winners were selected from well over 900 entries, a 15% increase in entries from 2009. These numbers make the San Diego Press Club’s Journalism Awards among the largest and most highly regarded regional media excellence competition in the United States. More than 300 awards were presented in 103 categories including work in daily and non-daily newspapers, magazines, websites, photography and design, radio and television. Falkenthal was among the most honored among all winner of this year’s competition with six awards, and the only entrant to win first place for three different media organizations in both online print and traditional broadcast competition. She is among the few full-time public relations practitioners to be honored alongside full-time journalists for her work.

“Public relations practitioners should hold their communication skills to the highest possible standards of excellence, in the same way as top-tier journalists,” said Falkenthal. “Our goals are the same: to tell stories to our audiences in a compelling, creative, and thoughtful way with understanding and insight. Interviewing, writing, or hosting a radio talk show should reflect these objectives no matter the platform or the job title.”

KyXy-FM threw in the additional hours and went total Christmas music last Sunday. The station will be all holiday music until December 25. Mark Blackwell writes that The Crossing, the HD-2 station will add Christmas music after Thanksgiving. The Crossing is a Christian contemporary station.

Rick Amato will be having a marriage ceremony on his show tomorrow night. The host will let his audience be the witness as a couple gets married on the air. The groom is in the U.S. Navy. That’s Wednesday at 9 p.m., on KCBQ-AM 1170.
