Today’s the day that Jeff, Jer, Tommy, Laura and Randy rejoin the San Diego radio airwaves. They’ll start at 6 a.m. on KyXy and bring their show as a force not only in fan loyalty, but hopefully as a ratings success for KyXy-FM 96.5.

First off: Sonny West, Susan DeVincent and Kevin Dean move to afternoon drive at the station. Sam Bass remains in mid-days, and Gene Knight is the host of Love Songs. The Showgram will be on from 6 to 10 a.m.

Starting at about 7:30 a.m., I will be one of the first in studio guests as a “question and answer” session will happen. Tommy Sablan said that no question will be barred and they will sit the record straight.

After my time, they will turn to the telephone and the fans will get their turn to ask questions. Noted: One of my first questions will be asking Jerry who the Cat of the Year for 2010 is — and I promise more hard-hitting questions about buying a station, why so long, and what has each of them learned from the experience.

KyXy streams 24 hours a day from their web site and there are smart phone applications to receive their broadcast. One of the best: Radio.com from CBS, StreamS, or WunderRadio. Podcasts of the Showgram are slated to be available.

Pity KSIQ-FM. The station at 96.1 FM had a lot of promise but has been missing from the airwaves. The station, licensed to Campo, has a relay on Mount San Miguel. The 700-watt addition is necessary to put the signal into areas south of the 8-Freeway. That’s been the rub as Cherry Creek Radio‘s relay is “missing” from the air.

The station has a 25,000 watt facility that doesn’t make the throw into San Diego — and it’s really scattered listening without the relay (or booster). Missing since last fall.

Mark Larson, morning host at KCBQ-AM talked about Bill Ballance‘s time at 760 KFMB last week. A podcast has been downloaded and will be listened too soon.

~~

Mike Slater is settling in the morning slot and keeping topics centered on San Diego. Part of that direction is Anna Good, his San Diego resident producer. The 760 KFMB morning host knows the difference between La Jolla, North County, and other compass points in the county. Take a tune to the right, weekday mornings on the talk station.

Chris Cantore at KPRi had the honor of introducing the Old 97s last week. The band played a private concert for freeqs of the station.
