It was all Jeff and Jer Monday as the Showgram hit the airwaves at 6 a.m. and brought their brand of morning show to one of the top rated station. As promised by the team, the press conference started at 7:30 a.m.
It was exactly that, as I was offered a chance to cover the 17 month gap. Jeff and Jer’s Showgram has a two year deal with KyXy. (It is also a revenue sharing deal giving CBS and the Showgram a share of the revenue from advertising and other non-traditional means.) The team will also be in a syndication deal as the time progresses.
Jerry replied that financing a radio station even with investors was a difficult deal even though they did come close several times. However the deals fell apart as the dollar amount was too high. Jeff said that the Showgram is best being the Chefs while others own the station.
The heritage of CBS Radio was one of the paramount things that Jerry said that brought them to the group. “Not owned by venture capitalist, but by radio folks”, CBS’ radio group is one of the largest in the nation.
In the 17 months off the radio, social media exploded. They will use it and as I saw on Monday, Tommy juggles phone calls, finding phone numbers, checking and posting to Facebook, and thinking of something to add to Twitter — all while making sure that Jeff, Jer, Laura, and Randy have everything they need for the broadcast.
Wildest rumor, Jer told me that Jeff and him were in another state, while the rest of them remained here in San Diego.
What ever the case, expect them to do a little bit of reinventing of the famous Showgram, listening to their audience — and having the “Best Day Of Our Lives” …..

Thank you Jeff and Jer for including me on your first day back on the radio.
