World famous KCBQ‘s and San Diego’s own Gary Allyn writes: “And the Winner is….! 1968 photo of the great KCBQ- Mattell motorized bathtub race at the Grossment Mall. In the “Tub” behind me is Dex Allen. Also in this race was Jimmy Rabbit. Those things really ran fast!! A fun promotion.”

Long distant listeners to radio stations would send in reception reports and ask for a “QSL” card. In their letter, they would have the programming, announcer and what was on the air. The station, in turn, would send out a coveted card to confirm that it was received! Here’s a vintage one from KCBQ.

Todd Williams shared this classic photo of Wolfman Jack in one of his many stops in San Diego. Wolfman was heard at XERB, blastin’ the border from Baja to Bakersfield. When rewatching American Graffiti you can hear one of the classic radio jingles from XERB and of course, that movie brought the best in radio’s soundtrack wrapped around a movie. Todd is a marketing consultant for UniRadio in San Diego!

Jeff Detrow was making the rounds at TV stations prior to the Showgram’s start on KyXy. No matter what you still have to fix the home issues!
