What a week it has been for KSON-FM. First off, on Monday, seven year veteran Cliff Dumas and producer Tori Peck parted company as two-thirds of the morning show were no longer part of the broadcast station and team.
That leaves Brooks O’Brien leading the morning charge for the time being. She’s confident, and no doubt skilled in her duties. The morning show needed Cliff and Tori for some balance, spark, and some necessary levity in the morning. It’s not to often that one person — Cliff Dumas — is the center of the show, yet achieves the ability to make whom ever he is teamed with part of the “family”.
It’s rare that the original team of Morgan Thomas, Bill Tanner along with Tori Peck made the case for a good ‘ole country family. Their Hometown Handshake Tour remains legendary. They touched all corners of the county, and brought the community in for song — and some great viddles.
The $5 concerts in Lakeside and the Oceanside seaside amphitheater had great music, great entertainment, and what a showcase for a station that school children spelling the country with “KSON”. (Cliff Dumas, KSON APD and morning host Brooks O’Brian, Frankie Ballard, KSON PD Kevin Callahan, and KSON personality Nick Upton.)
Cliff and Company, and also Cliff and Brooks achieved a mark that will be hard to duplicate. For what ever reason, the last 18-months the station management started the slow dismissal of the original offerings. Finally, Cliff teamed up with Brooks and made a successful run in keeping it fun, in the market.
Yesterday, Cliff Dumas, Tori Peck and Brooks O’Brian were rewarded by the Academy for Country Music by taking the ACM for Major Market in the U.S. No small ordeal as the show continue to set the standard.
Cliff and Tori will be in Las Vegas in April to accept their award — along with Brooks. Well deserved by all; and unfortunate that the audience will not hear about it.
Thanks Cliff. Thanks Tori — and thanks to Bill Tanner and Morgan Thomas — and to Brooks O’Brian for making many mornings a better place for their audience.
