As the events unfolded last Thursday night at 9:45 and the news from Japan was horrific, and added scares of a tsunami for the west coast of the U.S., live, local radio was the best place to “tune in” too.
First reports were broadcast at the 10 p.m. news, and for Coast To Coast AM listeners, they had the advantage of George Noory‘s long list of experts calling in. Locally on KOGO, Cliff Albert utilized his home broadcast line as the worries of a fast approaching tsunami were broadcasted to the community.
Cliff wrote, “Long night but you do what you gotta do to serve audience!” That audience is the San Diego county area. As C2CAM had calls in from Japan and analysis, Cliff was dispensing information about the approaching wave.
Job well done, Mr. Nooz … and thank you for doing what you do best.
Noted: KOGO had a two hour pep rally yesterday from SDSU prior to the announcement that the Aztec’s basketball team will start play this week. AM 600 will continue with the team through out March Madness!

It is hard to describe a legend, a perfectionist, and a person who had the job skills — and people skills.
Chuck Cooper was one of the two production folks dismissed at Clear Channel Radio in San Diego.
He was a radio perfectionist with a long career in San Diego radio.
Scottie Rice writes: “Chuck first came to San Diego in 1964 to KGB and was hired for the soon coming new “Boss” format. From there he went to KDEO then to KSDO later to be switched to KOGO where he basically stayed for 30+ years.”
Scottie adds, “This man is a pure broadcasting legend.”
