23 November 2009

The GelderHead Thought Of The Day: When I’m not in my right mind, my left mind gets pretty crowded. ~ Stephen Wright

Welcome to SDRadio for Monday, November 23, 2009. This report is in ((Stereo)) and in HDRadio.

rock1053The San Diego Chargers are sitting on top of the western division and the radio broadcasts have been exciting. Previous posts about Rock 105.3‘s HDRadio poor reception …. continues.

Yesterday, driving and listening to the FM broadcast on 105.3 from East to North County was perfect along the 15 freeway until Rancho Carmel going north. The problem is when the audio between the HDRadio and the analog are not in sync. An HDRadio will default to the analog signal — and as through out the football season, the audio doesn’t match up. As previously indicated as more HDRadio receivers come common place, this issue by the Clear Channel station has to be resolved.

Now for the good: Josh Lewin and Hank Bauer are on top of their game. The pre- and postgame are on top and on target. Added bonus is Jeff Dotseth, Brian Wilson, Mike Costa, and Eddie Pappani. Chargers Talk is hosted by Darren Bennet, and Robert Griffith.

The radio network have stations that cover all of Southern California and Southern Nevada. Along with the main broadcast crew, NBC 7/39′s Jim Laslavic covers sideline reporting.

Rock 105.3 is the flagship station. Stations also include:

* XTRA San Diego 1360 AM

Missing: Jeff and Jer have a strong radio history in San Diego and their dismissal from the airwaves, while sudden, was expected. As all radio station group owners are on a cash diet and saving as much, it was a familiar story that was replayed.

Many questions from fans were raised as the last Live From Jerry’s Garage didn’t discuss their return to radio — at all. Previous editions were full of hope, and anticipation of nuggets of news. This non-announcement disappointed fans who wanted some insight on their (hopeful) return to the radio airwaves. Here’s hoping a promised announcement before Thanksgiving is made or — a posting at JeffandJer.com is made. (Please guys, this is how the rumor mill boils over.)

Noted: Tommy Sablan participated in the “3-Day Walk” over the weekend. Congratulations Tommy!

Overheard: “NBC is sadly the fourth-place network; actually, we’re in ninth place if you count the radio stations ahead of us right now.” Tina Fey of 30 Rock about the Peacock Network. The television empire of GE is in discussion to be sold off to Comcast, one of the biggest cable outlets in North America.
