Mel Hall, pioneer radio personality at KDEO and other San Diego stations, has died.
Mel arrived in San Diego at radio station KDEO in 1959. He programmed the station before heading to WJJD in Chicago in 1961. He returned to California and programmed KRLA in Los Angeles in 1965. Along the way, he wrote and produced that “You Belong to the Zoo, the San Diego Zoo” theme song. He formed his own production company in 1966 that produced commercials and music with great success for decades. Mel was an early pioneer of Top 40 Radio in San Diego and those of us that knew him are glad for it, and we will miss him.
