In the first thirty minutes, Chris Merrill kicked off his show at KOGO-AM/FM and hit the audience with “Candy-ass. Butt-diddled. Whale’s vagina. Boobies.”
The 3 p.m. start hit the normally conservative station hard as it took a punch in to a prime time drive show reminiscent of a morning FM talk.
The host, who comes to San Diego airwaves, was previously heard at KMBZ, Kansas City. He is continuing his morning drive show at the KC station for “about” another four weeks. Chris drove to San Diego last weekend from Kansas City — and opened the show about driving through the Sunflower state at “100 miles per hour” and getting a ticket at the Colorado state line.
While describing his car trip and saying he was ready to “pop” the next person who joked about San Diego — he wasted no time tearing down the conservative verbal wall on the air, and started to rip a mark in afternoon drive.
Program director Cliff Albert responded to an email that initial feedback has been good, despite the launch-raunch of his opening comments. Chris is expected to reach to a younger audience than the previous spot held by Roger Hedgecock.
Roger moved his syndicated show to KFMB-AM 760 last month. Lady LaDona Harvey retakes the noon to 3 p.m. drive at KOGO.
KOGO broadcasts on AM 600 and also on 95.7 FM.
Hang on Chris, as a former Sunflower state resident, you are not in Kansas anymore. See you on the radio.
