Welcome to the 2010 edition of SDRadio! The world famous GelderHead Thought Of The Day: Do the thing you fear to do and keep on doing it… that is the quickest and surest way ever yet discovered to conquer fear. ~Dale Carnegie
Anything new?
Radio’s Best Friend was hanging at Shotgun Tom‘s pool hall Saturday night. Art Vuolo talked about his radio roots — and his camera and air check gathering that spans the U.S. and Canada.

The year closed with a posting of a January 7 forced sale of Finest City Broadcasting‘s three stations of 91X, Magic 92.5 and Z90. While indications are that a San Diego group will buy the U.S. marketing rights to the three Mexico-based stations, the process has to be played out. While there is no known time frame for a new “owner” of the broadcast company, the one thing not discussed is present on-air staff.
Their contracts could not be honored by the new company, leaving them the innocent bystanders as their company crumbles.
Speculation aside, many ears will be hearin’ if their favorite air hosts remain on the air after Thursday. Stay Tuned

Today is also the debut of the Mikey-less show on Rock 105.3. Sky, Boston Rob, Ashlee, and Eddie hit the airwaves at 6 a.m.
As indicated on Dec. 21, they will continue the show without Mikey Esparza. In a strange turn of events, Mikey has signed with another San Diego broadcast station — not officially known — and the four remained at The Rock.
Meanwhile, Mikey writes at his blog: “I’m so excited about the new Mikey Show 2010. You all want to know details, and believe me when I say. . . I wanna SHOUT it from the rooftops. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you details just yet. Soon, but not yet. Believe me, as much as you have told me you want the Mikey Show back on the air, I WANT IT EVEN MORE!!! I cannot overstate that enough. If this were my call, it would be right away.
“I can’t wait to get back on the air. It’s been less than 2 weeks since I came to realize I would be putting together a brand new show, and starting from scratch is a huge task. Yesterday I spent hours on the phone. My ear actually got hot from the bluetooth/phone. I’m really excited because the pieces have started falling into place.
“A bunch of people have told me they hope my first day on the new show will be January 4th. I actually thought it was going to be that day too but it is so important to me that the show be right from day one. I only get one chance to make a first impression.”

KSIQ-FM, presently broadcasting at 96.1 and licensed to Brawley, is “moving” to Campo.
The eight-bay tower is built and the station is expected to be on the air sometime this month. There have been suggestions that the Brawley station is off the air; however my drive through Imperial Valley last Friday had the station on.
When Cherry Creek Radio lights the new Campo facility on, a booster station, licensed to Santee and on Mount Miguel will give listeners south of the 8 freeway a new station.
Suggested engineering data has the station, with the booster, giving those points city grade coverage.
Who the buyer and what format remains to be answered; it’s a Stay Tuned item.

Another question of “When are they returning to the air” should be — hopefully — answered this month. Jeff and Jer along with Laura Cain, Tommy Sablan and Randy Hoag. Many tea leaves have been read over the past several months, and every indication is that it is a matter of “when” not “if”.

Where does Channel 933‘s Johnjay Van Es stay on his trips from the home office in Arizona to America’s Finest City? In El Centro, there’s this fine establishment right off the freeway ….
