They still had a few good bits but Dave was getting so grumpy he was getting hard to listen to....not to mention he was an arrogant snob. His gold digging trophy wife was irritating. She needs to get a job

Folks, Folks, Folks: I have spent a very long time reading or scanning ALL of these posts, and not one single one -not even Quiet Talking James, the only one I recognized from the show- said what what ought to have been obvious, especially to Omniohl (how can anybody write a book letter and miss this? Though since I certainly only scanned his, I may have missed it): WE-DON'T-KNOW-THE-FACTS!!! For which everybody involved, especially the media (whatever happened to "the public's right to know? I'm sure 99% of the people on this page would rather know what happened in the DSC/CC salary discussions than about any politician in the country). HOW MUCH WERE THEY OFFERED? HOW MUCH OF AN INCREASE, IF ANY?
Or a decrease? Did CC not offer anything except for a last second low ball offer face-saving purposes, like the Padres -may they forever finish last- did to Trevor Hoffman and other Padre icons? Or did they give them a very generous offer that they were too arrogant to accept? Or, as some speculated? Did they quit on principle -a reasonable possibility- because they we're going to have to cut some show members in order to keep
their jobs? The point is, WE DON'T KNOW!!!! It's so easy to bash corporations -especially conservative ones, funny how liberal ones that cut people
lose never get criticized- because they are big, impersonal, faceless, etc, and many times are guilty are choosing money over people (I too, was
a victim -more than once, btw), and the DSC have faces and names attached to them, and it's "just" several of them vs. big, bad corporation.
That indeed may well be the case. But excuse me if I don't cry for those who live in homes in N.County, can pay thousands for remodeling jobs,
have cars that don't require keys ("I don't know anybody who uses a key for their car except Boyer, har har"), are rich -according to our new president, Dave said once- take more vacations than teachers without the their low pay to go with it AND have full job benefits to boot.
If they gave all that up so that their team wouldn't be broken up, I salute them. But if they demanded more while the company was making less,
I give them a one-finger salute instead. The point is, I/We DO NOT KNOW! And shame on the media for leaving/keeping us in the dark as to
the cause for the demise of an institution that was clearly important and beloved by so many -yes, myself included. But apparently I'm the only
one not letting an inconvenient thing like facts -or lack of them- get in the way of bashing one side or the other. Cry if you want -I will certainly
join you in that- but otherwise: shame on YOU!!!
Note: I will not be listening to KGB anymore either; not because I'm angry at big, bad CC, but because they aren't on anymore and they were the only thing I listened to on it. I go to the WALRUS -105.7 FM- for my music. Fact.
  • Quiet talking James
And just to re-iterate (I had to go back and read my comment, it seems so long ago that i wrote it), that my biggest peeve about the CC reaction after the firing, was that they make a statement that was insulting on the basis that we as the public see through the well wishing and the spin-job. I assumed that my stating the facts could at least be interpreted as SAYING that I didnt know the facts.

Disputes between labor and management are just that.. THEIR dispute.. it's why I had no problem crossing the picket lines to get groceries when THOSE workers didn't go to work and why I will not bash CC for answering to their shareholders and preserving their bottom line. I WILL bash them for treating us as idiots, and I will certainly lament the loss of my morning show.
  • Christy
I totally agree with banned for life mike.

Nicole can't hold a candle to Beth. She turned Dave into an arrogant ass.

That life was stolen from Beth by cruel fate. Nicole stepped in and took over. I don't like her and I don't like the show since Beth died.
  • Christy
I stopped listening to DSC after dave's wife Beth died. The show just lost it's heart after that.

I was stunned that Dave returned to work only a week later. How cam you go back to being funny one week after your wife dies? It turned me off.

In response to Billy's question, I do not know how much he was asking for specifically but it was noted in the paper that Clear Channel and the trio couldn't reach a figure that Clear Channel could afford to pay that the cast WOULD ACCEPT. In short, they got greedy. Granted, when you are a big name you shoot for the higher salaries but when the economy is going sour and employers cannot afford to pay as much, one of the results is that the people who are too stubborn or full of themselves to negotiate, become casualties.

    Dear KGB Management,
I have been out of town and just found out that DSC and Bower have been dropped. WTF were you thinking??? Was it not clear enough that they were your bread and butter????????? They were the major reason i was a loyal listener. Don't get me wrong, I am a lover of classic rock but without them on KGB I am Changing to Country Music. Until DSC and boyer return you have lost me as well as my friends as a listener.
P.S. This is another Classic Cluster F??C caused by management.
    Regards
    John Spizale
  • John Spizale
    Dear KGB,
What you did by not reinstating DSC And even Boyer is about the DUMMEST thing I have heard in a long time. As usual management has stepped in and screwed up a good thing. DSC and boyer was the only reason I listened top that station. Time will prove when listeners as well as ratings drop one by one.
  • Randy Troy
Im so pissed off ! DSC is the best radio show, period ! Ive removed 101 KGB from my radio pre-sets and Im hoping and waiting for a radio station with some brains to hire them. Clear Channel is just another expample of big corporate bean counters with no imagination !
  • Banned for Life Mike
GET LOST: I have listened to DSC ever sine I moved here in 1996. I've found them to be topical, convivial, and funny. Great chemistry and good for a laugh. At least, that's the impression I received as a listener. Then, about 2 months ago, I sent them an email registering a complaint that they were getting too political (they were mired in a "health care legislation" rant). My complaint wasn't angry. In fact, I think I wrote "Hey! You're putting us to sleep." I was surprised that i received a reply from Dave himself. I was even more surpriced at the sharp tone of his reply: "If you don't like it, get lost!" Needless to say, I was thrown off. Such arrogance! I think Dave was getting too cocky. He kept having his wife Nicole call in to treat all of us to another update on lifestyles of the rich and famous. I really tired of her stories about their horses, her riding competitions, their latest vacations, her convertible... this was not wise programming given the state of the economy. What listener, barely making it paycheck-to-paycheck wants to hear about their restaurant service in Hawaii, her trip to Europe, or her trainer's regimen? I thought Boyer was getting too creepy, his right-wing tirades getting more outrageous and threatening to the President. What I'm saying is that, though I will miss them, I'm pretty sure we will all do fine without them. Maybe Dave can take this time to get anger management, Boyer can get back on his meds, and Nicole can get a real job. They can, to quote someone we know... "get lost".
  • Edward Meade
It saddened me to turn on the radio on Monday morning to find DSC gone. They, along with Ruth and Boyer, were like my best friends and I depended on them to make my morning drive to work a pleasant one. Now I've gone back to my CD collection and don't tune to KGB at all.
  • Billy
How much $$ was Rickards asking for?
  • Billy
Dave should have been fired long ago for putting his idiotic wifee on every 30 minutes. Just unprofessional and boring as could be. Arrogance will always fail. Who freakin cares about that nut case walking up tired, riding horses, having no job, talking like a moron. Just disgraceful. He got what was coming, just later than it should have.
  • Mark Sheer
I have listened to Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw for , well, I guess about from Day 1. It seems to me that they used to be called the "Dawn Patrol". Non the less, it is unbelievable to me that the best morning show in the entire United States is now gone. I am a truck driver and so therefor have listened to many shows in many cities. No one even gets close. KGB should get a clue or better yet, the DSC should go to Sirus Radio so I can listen to them everyday, everywhere ! I am keeping my fingers crossed for the best of the best ! Go Chargers and Go DSC !
  • Patty
I think that all of the people that are mourning the loss of Dave, Shelly & Chainsaw are missing the entire picture. Clear Channel began laying off people a long time ago and until recently only a few on air talents were among them. The people that were let go consisted primarily of the individuals that did the grunt work to keep shows like the DSC on air. The majority of them were making minimum wage and receiving no recognition for their work, while the DSC persevered due to their contribution. Reading Dave's comments like "We are heartbroken" makes me sick to my stomach. If Clear Channel had let the people making 6 figure salaries go before the people receiving almost nothing were laid off, the company probably wouldn't be in debt as much. Dave, Shelly & Chainsaw made more money in one year than most of us will see in our entire lifetime. Unless they squirreled away their salaries, they are set for life. With the unemployment rate as high as it is, my heart is not bleeding for them. They had their time in the spotlight, they were generously paid and they have a dream lifestyle.
Recently, the DSC became more and more perverted and lost it's humor and witty comments. If Dave is "heartbroken" that he will not be receiving millions of dollars a year anymore, then he needs to wake up and smell the coffee. He should consider himself lucky and realize that there are many people that this economy has left jobless & homeless. He should savor the memories of the time he spent in the spotlight rather than whining that it is over. He should be happy that he can live in his mansion and feel for the people who have suffered foreclosures rather than mourn the fact that the DSC is no more. I repeat, if Clear Channel had let the people making 6 figure salaries go before the people receiving almost nothing (that were the backbone to keeping shows like the DSC up and running) were laid off, the company probably wouldn't be in debt as much as it is. Good riddance to a perverted show that belittled women for way too long.
  • What kind of crack do they serve for lunch at Clear Channel...you may have been around for a long time KGB...but you are nothing without your juggernaut talent...do the right thing and work it out...or shut it down and give it up to Sirius!
  • lilann
I am so very sad...I miss my mornings w/ DSC. Laughter is good for your health and soul and now that part of my day is gone. I have plently of CD's to listen too and I am now boycotting all the San Diego CC stations. I have NO reason to listen any more, join me in boycotting CC.
  • Scott
No DSC in the morning or replay at night. I liked the fact that I could catch up at night what I missed in the morning.A work buddy and myself would try to base our schedule around being in the work truck so we could listen to DSC. Tons of laughs over the years, its a damn shame its over now.
  • Dave
Attention sponsors of the DSC. Pull your ads from all CC stations. I purchased my bed, dined out, joined the players club, bought dog food, cell phones and a number of other services and goods as a direct result of my morning shows recommendation. CC made a huge mistake by and should not profit from it. Listeners should avoid previous sponsors of the DSC if still advertising at a CC station until CC realizes consumers want the "dawn patrol" back on the air. You have ruined my day, I hope this ruins yours.
  • Deb's
I want to thank Eli for giving the opportunity to listen to the last two airings of DSC!
I am totally bummed they are not there for my morning routine, I also have been listening to them since high school and I am sooo sadden with all you guys the DSC listeners :-(
  • Dan
Can't believe it when friends emailed me in Canada about the show. I lost the ability to listen live a few years back and had listened to them when they were at 102 and 105 I had been following them religiously for years while in SD. Too bad but I will always have my Lash Wednesday win in 1994 to cherish. Boyer actually made me a tape of the whole show and I had heard promos of my farting in the elevator/death call for years afterward!
  • sc_tunia
I didn't just loose a radio show, I lost part of my family. DSC has been my favorite part of the day everyday for years and years. I listened on my way to work and then pod casted the parts I missed for the rest of the day. Our relations are deep to me, they have been sponsored by my cousin's "Cancer for College", Dave's daughter did performances with my nephew Forrest, My sister Kelley was a $1000 winner to get her visiting military son back to base in VA last year, Dave and I became widow's around the same time and then both were re-married close to the same date. I am ready to schedule a funeral just for some closure. I am in mourning...

This is standard operating proceedure in radio. Offer a low contract deal knowing it will be rejected then turning around and shrugging at the listeners with a "we tried" attitude.

This is purely business, I'm sure CC would want to keep them at some level, but things are tough all over. At the same time, while CC is surely in touch with the money side of the business, I think for a long time it has been out of touch with the personality side and what drives listenership. A audience like that the DSC had isn't driven by the playlist as it might be with clueless douchebags listening to rap or slutty teeny pop.

I can listen to music anywhere in many formats. I don't need radio, I have hundreds of songs loaded on my headunit in the car if I want music (which came in handy when that blathering idiot Ditch hit the air). I listened because of the on air personalities.

Nevermind the set list has seemingly gotten pretty constrained anyway, I can almost set my watch by when they play "Pour some sugar on me" for the millionth (*slight exaggeration) time.

Thanks CC for reintroducing me to what an awesome collection I have, in high quality with no commercials.

I think it'd be funny to have the DSC re-emerge on one of the for sale X stations (although not good for coverage.)
  • GOCHARGERS
I loved the DSC, too!! But what can the station do? The show wasn't generating any new sponsers...the same commercials over and over, and that's where the revenue comes from! Everyone is cutting back, and hopefully they'll be back when things improve and CC can give them a better offer. Or maybe they'll go to satellite, where they can be funnier anyway
  • William W
This just shows how little ClearChannel understands business. The whole reason people listened to KGB in the morning was DSC. And they showed that they have very little class by just pulling everything without any warning, basically saying FU to everyone that listens to the show. They didn't get where they are without DSC, and now they are gone. See how much revenue you can make selling ad space now since no one's listening to KGB anymore. KGB just lost the trust and respect of just about everyone in SD. I go where DSC goes. Period.
  • Tony
What would the Great Dave Steve say about the Arbitron rating system now? Silent are the throaty voices of Lance and Rod with a birthday call. Did Ruthy drop one too many F bombs or was it her nose whistle that drowned out the team? The King of Doucheville has been dethroned. He has returned to his own domain. What happened to DSC? "He doesn't even know." This is one time they made us say "WOW!" As Zippy and Bobby used to say at the end of their show, "Thank youuu!"
    DSC. Love Your Show!
  • ehoss
In reading what is on the the net. It would appear that the CC made the decision to remove the show over the Christmas break. If you read Mikey's blog, his contract was not renewed but the rest of "his" show talent was renewed. We was contractually free to find another radio station. In fact it sounds like he has on FM 94.9. When you also take into account the fact that the company that owns 91X goes to bankruptcy auction on Thursday 1/7/10 and all of the on air talent contracts are null and void and will be looking for work, CC made a decision to drop the DSC before their contract ended. I would bet $$$$ that they are still be paid and have a "no compete" clause in their contract. So from CC point of view, they eat the wages for the talent while keeping them off the air in the local market. They are using their contract against them.

Lastly, when Ruthie was let go, she was a traffic reporter only. She also did traffic for other stations in the area. Again, I would bet $$$ that Dave and Co made a deal to pay her from their contracts, thus taking a pay cut themselves. I would bet Dave and Co took a hard line to get everyone a fair pay check. CC took this a weekness and decided to use it against them in contract talks.

USE the web. the truth will come out. The DSC is as much a part of San Diego as Tony Gwen.

Dave's "Inland Empire" Chief of Staff

I was off yesterday and didn't put on the radio. Today I put it on and nothing. I couldn't figure it out till I text someone to find out what was going on. I can't believe it. I listened to them everyday for my 45 minute ride to work. What will I do now? No one can replace them. Clear Channel has made a huge mistake. The only reason to have listened to KGB was the DSC. There is no reason to listen to them now.

I really miss the DSC and have absolutely no reason to listen to KGB without them.

booohooo! when I woke up yesterday and heard the radio, I thought maybe they had taken another day of vacation. Then I read the U-T and just was BUMMED. I'm almost 36 and I've listened to them since I was 17 years old!!! Seriously,I feel like it's a death. But I hope they come back. No more kgb preset in my car or alarm clock radio. They were funny, smart, but it was the voices and chatter that made it feel like home to me. A San Diego institution....*sniff*.
  • Mike
It IS a valid point that the economy plays a BIG part in why the DSC is gone. But, the other factors such as possibly wanting the split up the group (they tried that with Jeff & Jer, and they walked), and Ruthie HAD been terminated before---so I can see that as a reason. Also, CC is in financial straits, needs to cut back on salaries, and lowballing their talent is a way to do it. Besides...they can potentially "save" themselves by having people voice track during the day, and pay them less. It's also getting to the point where, at some juncture, there won't BE a need to have that building on Granite Ridge when they can simply have someone voice track from the home office in Texas, and have that transmitted to the tower via satellite. It's already happening across the country, where they have one person voice tracking for various stations in different markets. That's the new radio DJ for the millenium. It's cost-efficent, gets the job done, and MOST of all----puts more money back in the shareholders' pockets. Radio isn't about personality or honestly trying to connect with an audience anymore....it's about advertising, maintaining the bottom line, and putting out a product that the corporate heads THINK we want to hear, at a fraction of the price. They look at nummbers, do market research, and cater to demographics---all the norm. However...the execution of the product leaves little to be desired.

This is why I honestly believe that mainstream radio as a medium is dying. Sure, the economy may recover, and advertisers MAY come back----but I believe that companies that can turn a profit with half a staff now, won't be so willilng to hire anyone back once it DOES recover---they won't feel the need to. This economy will be a jobless recovery...and radio is a part of that. I was a casualty of the bad times in radio 2 months ago, when I was let go from MY job---and they're practically automated at the place I worked...and I have a feeling it will stay that way for a long time to come.

While radio has always been a business...it also used to be about connecting with the people...about communication. Nowdays...it's just about money. Those in charge can honestly care less about that personal connection.
  • srichey
Good riddance. I used to listen to KGB back in the mid-eighties and used to enjoy being woken up by it every morning (sometimes I woke up laughing). However, that was more than twenty years ago, and it basically has sucked since then.
  • Susie
I don't know about the rest of you all, but I thought I might not survive the drive up 67 with all the radio channel changing I did...there is NOTHING out there!! It's like starting the day off without a cup of joe. I miss laughing all alone in my car on the way to work. DSC you are missed. :-(
  • eli
Here you all go, podcasts from my computer of the last two shows (12/17 & 12/18). I wish I had saved them all.

I had the good fortune of stumbling onto DSC back in the summer of 1997, and I was hooked. They were funny, innovative, improvisational, and even controversial now and then. Their sketches were frequent and hilarious, their bits were either great classics or they always seemed to have a great new idea. Every time a recurring character voiced up, it was an occasion to prepare to laugh uncontrollably. I listened for years when I was up during the morning hours and my enjoyment was endless. I even had the good fortune of attending their live show from 4th & B about 11 or 12 years ago, and I got to see Bromo trounced in a mud wrestling pit by a girl. I miss those heady days back when Abromowitz was new to the show...he served as an endless fountain of comic opportunities at Dave's whims. Everything felt raw and riotous, and I loved every minute.

But as time went on, when I started listening less (around 2005), I could tell that the edginess was fading. Bromo's angles were played out, the edginess and the semi-youthful exuberance that they appeared to derive from pushing the envelope of decorum was faded, and it felt more and more like they were just going through the motions. Those fantastic recurring characters and sketches became less and less frequent, to the point of nearly vanishing. Sure, bits like Lash Wednesday and Baby Talking always got laughs. I think that the last shakeup they were involved in was the "Sell Your Baby" billboards that got Stan Miller up in arms. But I couldn't shake the feeling that a certain ethereal "something" was leaving the show.

In the last year or two, whenever I tried tuning in to their evening reruns, it just felt flat. Routine. Still going through the motions, but with an edge as dull as a butterknife. They didn't even release a charity "Best Of" album for 2009, probably because they saw their termination coming months and months ago. I've been silently wondering how much longer the DSC was going to last before they announced their retirement. It's a shame that it had to go this way; with broken contract negotiations. I hope they don't pull a Brett Farve by staying in the game longer than they should. It's time to let the show rest.
  • mar
KUSI Good Morning San Diego is running a teaser saying that they will be running a story in the morning on what's next for DSC Show. Maybe they will have a few clues, who knows...

    Bob, Ruthie's twitter - Ruthie66

By the way, I am 47 and only listened to KGB during the DSC time slot. So long KGB.... Watch your ratings drop as fast as you dropped the DSC! Ha!
  • I loved that DSC wasn't a "morning zoo" type of program. They were funny and silly, but still had a touch of class to them (admittedly, when you think of things like the chowder blow and Boyer doing naked laps around the building, you have to dig deep to find said class... oh, c'mon, you're really not smiling at that?) The thing I liked best about the show, however, was that the male and female talent was balanced. Dave, Chainsaw, Boyer and Shelly, Ruth, and Emily. So much morning radio these days is infantile, insipid, and downright cruel... and very heavily male oriented, where the women have cutesy voices and act vapid or their voices are just plain drowned out by fart jokes and no fat chicks rants.

DSC was different. 15 or so hours since I first heard and it's finally starting to sink in. Maybe this is it. Maybe there's going to be no more show no matter what. Maybe they're moving on. :(
  • CJ
Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw. Ruth, Boyer, Emily, Sara you all will be missed. You were the best San Diego ever had. I hope you are able to resurface as a bright star wherever you go!

    Ohhhhh!!!! Myyyyy!!! Love your show!!!
  • Gaby M
I couldn't believe my ears this mornng! I kept changing the stations, maybe it was a joke? This SUCKS!! I have been listening since I was a kid and my dad used to drive me to school. I really hope you people out there are right .....and we will be able to listen again....soon
Oh! and by the way... I will never listen to KGB again (unless DSC is back)
  • Kathy
With all due respect, didn't anyone notice how boring and repetitive the show got the last few years? I was a fan for over 10 yrs and the past few had little if any of the fun and silliness it used to. Lots of overused bits, little if any effort to keep it lively. Radio is done but we did it to ourselves with our ipods, downloads, cds, etc. Advertisers pay the salaries and I'll bet all of you punch the next station as soon as the music stops. We all do.
  • Mark
This is what we are heading to as the big dogs get bigger. CC or who ever that made the decisions totally axed the one station I listen to for a two hour commute. No indications, no warning, no nothing. This listener will no longer be tuning the dial to 101.5. Last time I asked, Radio don't mean crap without a listening audience.
When Howard Stern moved everyone knew why!!!!!
  • Bob
Does anyone know what Ruthie's twitter addres is?

Anyway.....Hoping that DSC turns up at another local station. I'd have to bet that Satellite is out of the question considering the cost cutting Sirius / XM are already doing. I'm a Sirus /XM subscriber and their on air talent (opie and Anthony etc) continue to bash the company over cutbacks on a daily basis. I wouldn't bet on a satellite deal for DSC anytime soon.

I'm one of many who only listened to KGB in the mornings for DSC - then I switched to Sirius /XM for the rest of the day. No reason to listen to KGB anymore!!!!!
  • Jennie
I was devasted when I turned on the radio this morning & heard that DSC was no longer at KGB, I WILL NOT listen to ANY Clear Channel Radio Stations ever again unless they bring the DSC show back!
Shame on you Clear Channel, DSC is the best there has ever been, they keep us smiling while times are tough!
  • Chuck
Thanks Clear Channel. Will never listen to you or support your sponsors again. The DSC will be missed...

I am with you, Dann. Love your show.

CC strikes again. The podcasts are on iTunes, but try to subscribe! You'll need authorization, in other words, CC is doing their best to try and stamp out 20 years of SD radio history. Screw 'em!
  • TM
Two kinds of discj jockeys, one that has been fired and one that will be fired. Business as usual folks, DSC was great and they left a legacy. But in reality, the scene has changed, the art of radio is now the business of radio, sad but true.
  • Well, I admit I'm no expert with the industry or business, but it makes me happier for now to believe something a bit more positive about the DSC crew in this crap pile us loyal listeners have been handed to start the new year off with. I'm going to assume something positive for now until I hear otherwise. As far as KGB ratings sliding, maybe it has to do with all the other great talent they let go last year. I mean, seriously, who can listen to Gunnar on the air for more than 2 minutes without thinking of college radio? They got rid of Bobbie Hill for that? They got rid of Ditch who was actually pretty cool because Bryan Schock would take less money? Sometimes, cheaper is not always better. Bryan seems like a really nice guy on the air, but his delivery lacks personality to my ears. I wish him no ill will... I just don't find him entertaining to listen to. Great taste in music on his iPod though.

P-Dyzzle hit the nail on the head. It's all too easy to scapegoat Clear Channel as a faceless, money-hungry entity but, the fact is, they're just watching their bottom line.

Yes, DSC is a local institution. The ratings speak for themselves, though (http://www.radio-info.com/site/markets/grid/san-diego). KGB has been on a ratings slide the past couple of months. If what DSC was doing wasn't working for the station, then they gotta fix it...pure and simple.

Here's hoping they find a new home soon, but this is just another sign of terrestrial radio finding other ways to keep in the ratings game without paying for brand-name talent.
  • P-Dyzzle
    @Hardsix

But what would that do for CC? How would they profit from that action? If they are nothing more than a corporate entity that is looking out for the bottom line I don't understand how the action of splitting them up other than not having to pay other salaries would help their bottom line.

I understand where you are coming from when you say they might have all walked on principal to keep the group together but when you have been making the money they have been pulling down and you know that you are able to go anywhere and make good money it's easier to stand your ground.

It's all about the economy. Ad revenue is way down and the station just can't afford those high profile shows anymore. Jeff and Jer... gone. Mikey...gone. DSC...gone. Tony and Chris...gone. KOGO Newsroom... non existent. Finest city...belly up. These guys were used to making bucket loads of money and the industry can't accommodate any more. Unfortunately the good 'ol days of radio are gone. In no way am I for CC; I was actually one of the many let go by CC... which turned out to be a blessing. CC cut back in so many areas that I'm surprised it took this long before they went to their big name talent. (Too bad Hedgecock is still on the air.) Is CC money hungry? Yes, but they aren't making any and every business in that situation needs to reinvent itself. I'm sure the CC deal was more than fair for the market. And those of you who only listened to KGB for the DSC...think about it. They didn't fit the station--they even made occasional remarks about not liking the music. Hopefully they land somewhere more suitable so we wont need to change the dial at 10am. It may be a good move for them. I will miss the DSC and hopefully there is another station in San Diego that can afford to pick them up.
  • Now now, I stand by my initial observation: this isn't about money, but about CC wanting to break the group up. I'm just surmising, and I'm not an insider, but remember how hard Dave and the gang fought to get Ruthie her job back? Ruthie even sobbed on the air during the closing moments of the last KGB DSC show ever, December 18, "Thanks for gettin' me my job back."

I will bet you nearly anything that this had to do with CC wanting to can Ruthie again, and maybe even Boyer... and maybe more. I choose to believe that Dave and the entire gang chose to walk rather than leave their brethren out in the cold. Give me people with a spine over money grubbing jerks anyday.
  • Mike G.
Crap I'm still in mourning! A day without the half-baked crackpot news is like a day without San Diego sunshine in the winter. I'll assume CC is oblivious to the fact that DSC accounted for approx. 50 hours a week of their broadcast time and no one listened to their stale-ass play list once DSC was over. Well I guess I just cleared another memory button on my radio. Thanks Clear channel. You suck it like jack Bauer.
  • P-Dyzzle
I understand everyone is upset and like you all I'm waiting to hear where the DSC will land and hoping it will not be satellite radio. But since CC owns basically all the good stations in the US why would they make a deal with the DSC to go to another City?

Now for those of you who are pointing any waving your fingers at CC the bottom line here is business. The DSC's contract was up, most likely they wanted more money and CC said no and maybe even said we have to cut some big salaries. Uh oh here comes a Boyer moment, did you know that the word "salaries" comes from roman times when soldiers were paid with salt? Wow that just slipped out.

So is CC the 800lb gorilla crushing our beloved DSC and other favorite DJ's? That is debatable but what we do know is that radio is hurting badly and as Mike said above, CC is looking out for it's bottom line period.

Hey I absolutely love the DSC but I bet J & J are having a laugh over this, Dave was not shy about putting it to those 2 guys.

In conclusion, long live the DSC no matter where they land, hope the future station is on Iheartradio and last but certainly no least, that they are not swallowed up by Satellite.

UNBELIEVABLE...They were the only reason I "Wached" radio!
  • John
I am both sadened and disappointed. I associated the DSC with KGB and they made my mornings very enjoyable now that they are gone I have no reason to listen to the 101kgb.
  • D-Wall
Just a sad day in radio. I had been listening to DSC since 1997, hard to believe that 12 years flew by. I can't imagine what I'll be listening to on the ride into work now. DSC was the main reason for having KGB on the dial.

If DSC is reading this, thanks for the 12 great years of radio. I'll be searching the airwaves to see where you all turn up!
  • Ultimateone
Looks as though the economy isn't as bright as the news media moguls try and paint .
kind of makes one wonder what else they're hiding or not investigating ?.

DSC Show wasn't always funny , however it was entertaining . Hopefully someone comes to their senses
and puts them back on the Air REAL SOON . Because I'd hate to have to break out that 55 gallon can of Whup Ass .

    All-
Please don't interpret my previous post as being on the side of CC. I was just relaying my conversation with Coe and the tone of her voice. I fully understand who/what CC is/are and I'm quite sure they are in the wrong. I also realize Coe can't just spout off against the company that signs her paychecks.
I'm on the side of Dave & Co. Always. ...and will await their return to radio greatness.
  • Uncle Dennis
Well as long as John Jay and Rich are on the air we will still be able to hear DSC's bits...
  • NewDscFan
This really sucks! I used to hate morning radio and then I started listening to Jeff and Jer then they were gone. Several months ago I started listening to the Dsc and I loved it! I woul listen to them on the way to work and at work on iheartradio until it was done. The show would make my day! Make me laugh and make my dull work day no more! I loved Kgb because they supported them. Now Im depresse d that the show is gone. I don't like the Mikey show! He is super annoying and just plain stupid. I now don't listen to 94.1 because of the Jeff and Jer show being cut, 101.5 because of the Dsc, and I thought I'd listen to 94.9, but if they're getting Mikey I'm not listening to that either! No more radio for me! Thanks Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw, Boyer, and Ruth! I hope you guys get another show that I can listen to! Please! :(
  • Carole
Don't blame Clear Channel, DSC were too complacent and dealt their cards wrong. They thought they were in the glory days of radio, read my lips folks. "They are past their prime," now that they're meandering in the meadows with the heifers and swine it's time for KGB to get down to business and make a real radio station for the Generation Y. Oh and Shelly! The one who smelt it dealt it. Don't ever forget that babe.
  • jimd
YOU TOTALLY F**KED ME Clear Channel. I spent a good chunk of my xmas cash on a nice Satelite/HD radio. Mostly for the secondary ALL DSC channel that 1.1.5 broadcasts in HD.

Driving to work today all I hear is tired KGB playlists, and some douche on the air. I tuned over to the DSC channel and it was dead. Silence.

I don't know anything about the radio business, but I do know people won't buy advertiser's product if they aren't listening. Count me in the ex-KGB listener group.
  • Mike
I knew it wouldn't be long before the axe fell on the DSC...despite the fact that I'd hate to have San Diego radio WITHOUT them. But this is just one more nail in the coffin that is radio not just in this county...but in this COUNTRY! It's been companies like CC...regardless of how good/bad the economy got...to cut talent because they didn't want to pay them. Coe may have said they were offered "millions of dollars", but let's face it---SHE wasn't IN that meeting, so we have NO IDEA what was offered---it's all mere speculation. Let's face it: CC is nothing more than a corporate entity that cares for nothing more than its bottom line----making money for the shareholders. Radio as an industry is dying because all it is anymore is homogenized medium. Stations don't have much identity anymore, and these days, you're better off listening to your ipod. It sickens me that stations cater to labels and have to pay licensing fees to play music on the air. And without personalities to help sell the station...what's the point in even listening? Unless you want traffic reports, or care to get brainwashed by the garbage they spew on AM radio...what's there to really listen to? DSC made radio fun....and without them...radio is just boring----at least to those that looked for entertaining programming.

This is just MY opinion, though...

I was so happy this morning listening to DSC over the web as I do everyday, knowing I would hear alll about their vacations and just getting caught up. Then I heard they were GONE. I felt like crying. As a 20 year listener to DSC, they WERE KGB for me. In fact those of you lucky enough to hear their last show on 12/18, got to know how happy I must have been as I sent alll of them gifts and they were kind enough to open them on the air during their annual gift exchange. It was the highlight of the year for me. And then to top it off, Dave called me during the show and put me on the air to thank me. I cannot say enough good about Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw, Boyer, Ruth, Emily and Sara. I also cannot say how badly it hurts right now to not have them on the air. I do not know the details, nor is it my business. What I do hope is that they are all together back on the air soon. And those of us who no longer live in SD and listen over the web can join back in the fun soon as well. I wish you well guys! You have made my day for 20 years.

I guess you could see the writing on the wall. No end of year CD, even though Dave's reason does make sense. But it would have made more sense to release one last CD and label it so. I'm sure the listeners would have ponied up as they always did. Also, throughout the year, they kept saying they hope to be here forever, especially after J and J left their show. But there was always a feeling that something was coming and I imagine they knew a future offer from CC would be much less than their current rate. I hardly believe they were offered millions, since they probably weren't making that to begin with. And if the offer was close to what they were currently making, why would they leave a highly succesful show? It makes me think the offer was lowball all the way.

As far as Mikey leaving too, it's only because most ot the on air talent contracts are renewed around this time of year. I doubt he would be joining the DSC.
  • scooter
the new reality in radio seems to be tough for some to grasp. the industry is failing about as fast as print media, and these over-leveraged companies like cc, who are also run by cheap right wing swine to boot, won't, with a very few exceptions, be paying the money that they used to. i never thought the dsc show was interesting (outside of chainsaw's obvious comedic talent) so i couldn't care less, but clearly their greed - just like worthless mikey's - forced cc to show them the door. unlike dsc though, mikey has no talent and is going to be paid nearly a million dollars a year at 94.9. there really is no justice.
  • Jorgev
No more DSC?... then KGB doesn't exist for me anymore!!!!!!
  • Rich
I think we all need to take a breath here and relax. When have you all known Dave to act rashly and with poor judgment in regards to the show and the livelihoods that depend on it? Heck, CC might not even be at blame here, maybe they truly did offer as much as they possibly could in their current economic state to keep the show. But DSC has a plan. Don't worry!

What does suck is that regardless of what their next move is, whether it involves a new local station or satellite, we won't hear the show for a while. But Dave & Co. clearly have a plan and we'll find out what it is when it's time for us to hear about it.

In the meantime, put those old podcasts to work!

I understand that Coe and Bryan have to follow the company line, but as it has been pointed out it is an insult to the listeners to think that we will buy the crap that CC is dishing out. Coe, Bryan if you are reading these posts just stick with they couldn't reach a deal and please stop making it look like CC was the good guy - we don't buy it. Just look at all the other talent that they have let go in the past months. They may have made an offer to keep Dave, Shelley and Chainsaw, but just as they did with the other shows it likely didn't include Boyer, Emily, Ruth, Sarah, or anyone else that makes this show great. This is a very sad day in San Diego radio.
  • Dan
When did Dave talk openly about selling his house? I don't remember that.

I too like everyone else am going to miss them. Have been listening to them since the Dawn Patrol days and I now have nothing to listen to in the morning. All the other morning shows here in SD just plain SUCK. The Mikey Show with Mikey on it was slightly tolerable but now that he is gone that show is not going to last for 6 months.

DSC if you are reading this, please stay local, you were such a HUGE inpact on this city I would hate to see you end up somewhere else (but would understand if you did).

    Love your show...

I just spoke with Coe Lewis at KGB (btw-she is a total sweetheart & I thank her for taking the time to speak with me during her mid-morning show).

I asked where the DSC might be going & she told me that as far as she knows, they don't have another gig (yet). She also said that Clear Channel were in negotiations with DSC until Dec. 31 and were offered a "very lucrative deal" and used the word millions of dollars. Coe herself didn't find out until yesterday 1/3/10 and told me she thought it was a joke when she got the call. Coe also commented that CC had recently cut 20% off it's payroll and considering the economy, couldn't believe they (DSC) walked away from the deal. She didn't think any other SD station could come close to what the DSC had been offered. She is truly upset and still in shock.

I've been listening to DSC since they were the Dawn Patrol back in the stone ages and so bummed they're gone.

All my best to the whole DSC crew (Dave, Shelly, Chainsaw, Boyer, Ruth, Emily, and former DSC-ers like Bromo, Rich, Shooty, etc.) You will be missed.
    Love your show!

The DSC was more than just a radio show. It was foundation not just for entertainment, but for people in need as well. For the pinheads at Clear Channel to destroy it this easily tells me they don't give a sh!t about helping the community. Outside of Charger radio postgames, I plan on NEVER listening to a Clear Channel station again.

    hey omnioh!
Well done! Thank goodness you said 'Love your show" at the end or else I'd have been lost! That's some purty writin'!

I understand that business is business and CC will do what it has to to ensure the bottom line and return to shareholders. They couldn't afford the show at the current price or they wanted to make some changes. And they also have to say what they said, by way of an explanation. Let's just hope that, as stated by others, that they don't REALLY think we buy that crap. It would have been better to just say "we didn't come to terms". Trying to look like the good guy was a laughable insult... Probably the last laugh anyone get's from KGB in a long time...

Now i just have to find where Mikey ends up and start listening to him...

    Quiet Talking James
  • MikeB
Bob, I'm with you on that one, it does seem very coincidental with Mikey leaving at the same time. didn't the Dawn Patrol do the same thing to Berger and Prescott years ago? Something doesn't smell right about this, I feel like I'm in that Vantage Point movie, putting all of the pieces together...
  • Frank
Ok. I've cooled down abit since my last post. I will miss the DSC greatly. I was 17 when I started listening and have been with them for 13 years now. I can't imagine my mornings without them. This sucks. CC really dropped the ball. No reason for clear channel out here in sd anymore. They managed to piss off all of their listeners for this and losing Mikey too.
  • Bolt73
A very sad day for San Diego. Like everyone else says from 60+ hours of CC to 4 (when the Bolts are playing)

    BOYCOTT CC
  • Blarg
Eli, if you do have the 12/18, I'd be so thankful to get it. :) I'm broken hearted knowing I missed Bromo's call, and what ended up being the last show.

When do you all think we'll hear a statement from Dave? And do you think they'll end up back here in San Diego? The thought of them being on another FM station in another part of the country where we can't listen just kills me. This is unreal. I can't even concentrate at work today because of it. :(
  • Richard
I moved away from San Diego in 2008, but have been streaming the show online to get my San Diego fix. I hope they come back somewhere in SD. Usually when shows go satellite or syndicated, you lose the local flair. I've been listening to KGB morning shows for a looooooong time, starting back in the day of the Hergon breakfast club.
  • Bob
I find it oddly coincidental that DSC & Mikey should both go off air at the same time. I'd be willing to bet money Mikey show's up with a new show on KGB in the next couple weeks. According to his blog, he's got something big cooking, and I bet this is it. It was CC's backup plan. Mikey was probably approached about it, and when negotiations failed w/DSC, the green light was given...

Best of luck to DSC, but who in town's going to give them a deal comparable to what CC could offer? Is Dave being greedy, or was CC just giving them a realistic amount of money instead of a ridiculous amount? Maybe I'm being too generous, but I wonder if it had more to do with loyalty than money. Maybe the "lucrative offer" involved dumping Boyer, Ruth, Emily, etc., from the show.
  • The DSC is no longer on KGB, well then KGB is no longer on my radio! Clear Channel seeks to be the Walmart of the airwaves, there PR spin sounds very familiar to the Jef n Jer firing (unable to reach an agreement) Nation, Clear Channel is behind this whole thing, don't be fooled, they don't want to pay for talent! So I guess AJ will cover both stations now, they're just a couple doors away from each other.... Goodbye KGB, hello XM and IPOD!, You can be sure I will let every advertiser know how I feel!

What I offer here is an involved yet detached look at KGB's remonstrations. Perhaps time, further study, and more reflection will either modify or enrich the analysis offered here, but the worst types of prodigal bohemians I've ever seen do nothing but eat, smell bad, and reproduce while contributing little or nothing productive to society in return for their upkeep. First things first: KGB used to be a major proponent of obscurantism. Nowadays, it's putting all of its support behind barbarism. As they say, plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. One could truthfully say that even when KGB bespeaks us fair to our faces it expresses quite different thoughts behind our backs. But saying that would miss the real point, which is that it once tried convincing me that truth is merely a social construct. Does it think I was born yesterday? I mean, it seems pretty obvious that we must soon make one of the most momentous decisions in history. We must decide whether to let KGB shackle us with the chains of antinomianism or, alternatively, whether we should examine the social and cultural conditions that lead it to view countries and the people that live in them either as economic targets to be exploited or as military targets to be defeated. Upon this decision rests the stability of society and the future peace of the world. My view on this decision is that there are two related questions in this matter. The first is to what extent KGB has tried to champion censorship in the name of free speech, intolerance in the name of tolerance, and oppression in the name of freedom. The other is whether or not KGB says that it should place stumbling blocks in front of those of us who seek value and fulfilment in our personal and professional lives because "it's the right thing to do". This is at best wrong. At worst, it is a lie.

Before KGB spews any more psychoanalytical drivel, let me assure it that if we are going to speak objectively about its smear tactics, we must understand that whenever it's presented with the statement that I have a misty, inchoate suspicion that it will spread quislingism all over the globe like pigeon droppings over Trafalgar Square in the near future, it spews out the hackneyed excuse that it is as innocent as a newborn lamb. Ironically, such screwball logic is likely to convince even more people that that's just one side of the coin. The other side is that wherever you look, you'll see KGB enforcing intolerance in the name of tolerance. You'll see it suppressing freedom in the name of freedom. And you'll see it crushing diversity of opinion in the name of diversity. I want nothing more—or less—than to reinforce the contentions of all reasonable people and confute those of the worst kinds of birdbrained spielers there are. To that task I have consecrated my life and I invite you to do likewise.
If I thought that KGB's outbursts had even a snowball's chance in Hell of doing anything good for anyone, then I wouldn't be so critical. As they stand, however, I can conclude only that KGB and I disagree about our civic duties. I profess that we must do our utmost to introduce an important but underrepresented angle on its impetuous conclusions. KGB, on the other hand, believes that once it has approved of something it can't possibly be diabolic. By writing this letter, I am honestly sticking my head far above the parapet. The big danger is that KGB will retaliate against me. It'll most likely try to force me to hang myself by the neck until dead although another possibility is that there are some basic biological realities of the world in which we live. These realities are doubtless regrettable, but they are unalterable. If KGB finds them intolerable and unthinkable, the only thing that I can suggest is that it try to flag down a flying saucer and take passage for some other solar system, possibly one in which the residents are oblivious to the fact that the very genesis of KGB's peevish prognoses is in fanaticism. And it seems to me to be a neat bit of historic justice that it will eventually itself be destroyed by fanaticism.

I do not wish to evaluate feudalism here, though I suspect that KGB has the nerve to call those of us who appeal not to the contented and satisfied but embrace those tormented by suffering, those without peace, the unhappy and the discontented "conspiracy theorists". No, we're "conspiracy revealers" because we reveal that if KGB isn't abhorrent, I don't know who is. I do not appreciate being labeled. No one does. Nevertheless, when I was younger I wanted to raise the quality of debate on issues surrounding KGB's litigious jokes. I still want to do that, but now I realize that you should check out some of the things it's saying about nepotism. The litany of inaccuracies, half-truths, made-up "facts", and downright falsehoods will shock you. And I won't even bother mentioning that instead of taking the easy path in life, the downward path, we must choose the upward path regardless of the pain, suffering, and sacrifice that this choice entails. Only then can we finally address the real issues faced by mankind. Yes, KGB will try to stop us by breaking down our communities, but it is hardly surprising that it wants to play fast and loose with the truth. After all, this is the same confused mythomaniac whose raucous prattle informed us that it's a moral exemplar.
KGB's litanies are like a Hydra. They continually acquire new heads and new strength. The only way to stunt their growth is to stop the Huns at the gate. The only way to destroy its Hydra entirely is to provide more people with the knowledge that KGB's co-conspirators argue that illiterate masters of deceit are more deserving of honor than our nation's war heroes. These are the same scurrilous mob bosses who quash other people's opinions.

This is no coincidence; I can't make heads or tails of KGB's statements. I mean, does it want to cultivate networks of snitches and spies to ensure that any unity against it can immediately be nipped in the bud, or doesn't it?
Let us now join hands, hearts, and minds to recall the ideals of compassion, nonviolence, community, and cooperation. KGB's assault on free speech was not mounted in a few weeks. Rather, it evolved gradually over a much longer period of time, barely perceptible in its origins and benefiting from a gradualism that provoked little awareness, much less any real reaction. That's why it is now the time to seek some structure in which the cacophony introduced by KGB's recommendations might be systematized, reconciled, and made rational. Though many people agree that we must work together against allotheism, paternalism, alarmism, etc., KGB's latest diatribe is KGB-style lunacy at its very finest. Every despicable word of that diatribe paints a perfect picture of KGB's hysteria and reveals that a bunch of the most unprofessional election-year also-rans I've ever seen have recently been accused of preventing me from sleeping soundly at night. KGB's fingerprints are all over that operation. Even if it turns out that it is not ultimately responsible for instigating it, the sheer amount of its involvement demands answers. For instance, how far do KGB's lies extend? The answer should be self-evident so let me just point out that KGB consumes, infests, and destroys. It lives off the death and destruction of others. For that reason alone we need to point out the glaring contradiction between KGB's idealized view of sesquipedalianism and reality.

Too many emotions to count raced through my mind when I first realized that when KGB hears anyone say that it doesn't care about accountability in our public systems, its answer is to cover up its criminal ineptitude. That's similar to taking a few drunken swings at a beehive: it just makes me want even more to make an impartial and well-informed evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of its equivocations. As that last sentence suggests, KGB's hypocrisy is transparent. Even the least discerning among us can see right through it.
If we look beyond KGB's delusions of grandeur, we see that it once tried to convince a bunch of us that it does the things it does "for the children". Fortunately, calmer heads prevailed and a number of people informed the rest of the gang that you may have noticed that KGB's warped editorials have caused a deepening feeling of ennui and lethargy to grip society. But you don't know the half of it. For starters, KGB wants to alter, amend, abridge, and censor the record to point the finger of responsibility at others. Such intolerance is felt by all people, from every background. At the risk of shocking you further I shall point out that KGB insists that it is a paragon of morality and wisdom. In the long run, however, it's only fooling itself. KGB would be better off if it just admitted to itself that if I hear its cultists say, "Snobbism is absolutely essential to the well-being of society" one more time, I'm going to throw up.

KGB is a big fan of interrogation and torture. Regular readers of my letters probably take that for granted, but if I am to encourage open, civic engagement, I must explain to the population at large that KGB indeed doesn't want me to knock some sense into it. Well, I've never been a very obedient dog so I intend not only to do exactly that but also to show you, as dispassionately as possible, what kind of brusque thoughts KGB is thinking about these days. I'm not writing this letter for your entertainment. I'm not even writing it for your education. I'm writing it for our very survival.
Not to be rude or anything, but KGB claims that it is clean and bright and pure inside. I would say that that claim is 70% folderol, 20% twaddle, and 10% another maladroit attempt to stir up trouble. What a joyful affair it would be for KGB if it managed to get away with turning the trickle of exclusivism into a tidal wave. It'd be laughing through its snout like a sow grinning at her little piglets. It'd be chortling at everyone's obliviousness to the fact that we cannot afford to waste our time, resources, and energy by dwelling upon inequities of the past. Instead, we must invite all the people who have been harmed by KGB to continue to express and assert their concerns in a constructive and productive fashion. Doing so would be significantly easier if more people were to understand that KGB has a driving need to revile everything in the most obscene terms and drag it into the filth of the basest possible outlook. Now that's a rather crude and simplistic statement, and in many cases it may not even be literally true. But there is a sense in which it is generally true, a sense in which it unmistakably expresses how it is right about one thing, namely that fear is what motivates us. Fear of what it means when reckless nobodies needle and wheedle hateful dummkopfs into KGB's entourage. Fear of what it says about our society when we teach our children that national-security interests can and should be sidestepped whenever its institutional interests are at stake. And fear of goofy mendicants like KGB who keep essential documents hidden from the public until they become politically moot. My goal for this letter was to do what needs to be done. Know that I have done my best while trying always to stop this insanity. Let an honest history judge.

DSC I will always love your show!

    Ex KGB listener!
  • Travis
Would be funny if they turned up at 91X. Remember when Berger & Prescott showed up there?
  • eli
Blarg, I feel the exact same way.

I may still have the 12/18 show on my computer at home. I'll check tonight. If so, I can send it to you.
  • David
I hope they go Satellite, DSC uncensored will be unreal. Less commercial breaks, and i can listen to satelitte at work but the KGB website was too slow to listen to. Im all for a move to Satellite, but if they end up fm on the east coast or down south....
  • Deanna
I WILL NOT BE LISTENING TO KGB ANYMORE... ALL OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WERE AVID DSC LISTENERS. IT WAS NOT FOR THE MUSIC; WE ALL HAVE IPOD'S. CLEARCHANNEL YOU TOTALLY SCREWED UP. DSC WAS ALL YOU HAD GOING FOR YOUR. A BIG BOOOOO FOR YOU AND THE WAY YOU DECIDED TO START 2010. I HAVE A SNEAKING FEELING YOU ARE GOING DOWN THIS YEAR.
  • JD
THANK YOU DSC for 20 years of laughter and more. You all came as close to being friends as a radio show can (and really, who would want an actual friend who would wake you up at 6 am every morning? You'd punch him in the face and go back to sleep.) So while I hope Dave,Shelly, Chainsaw, Chris Boyer, Ruthie, Emily, Bromo and anyone I've missed, remain in the San Diego market, I have to admit that you'd have to pay me a bundle to wake up every morning at 4 a.m. to be funny 5 times a week. I can see how it took a team to do it - and you have one of the greatest. Should you continue, but in a different market, please pay for a few ads here in San Diego to to let us all know where you are and if we can still listen on the internet. (We all should have seen this coming when Dave talked openly about selling his house! Stupid stupid stupid...) Anyway, good luck and you will be missed. - JD  And to all who will miss the DSC show, I can only hope to ease your suffering for now by making you aware of this site, that sadly is in no way associated with DSC: http://www.cinematictitanic.com/cinematictitanic.php
  • Mark
I am really pissed about this! I agree with the Comment that CC plays up the DSC promos all through the break, bad form indeed! I think they will end up somewhere, i hope it's not Sattelite, I don't want to spring for XM... CC made a very bad decision here! I only listened to KGB for the DSC show! Work fuel is right!! this is what gets me through the day! I imagine the screwheads at KGB and CCC are reading all of this right now wring their hads thinking... "What did we do?" I would not be suprised to see "the Mikey Show" Appear in its place, he is making all kinds of noise about his new project! ICK!!
  • eli
    Randy, it's Ruthie66:

    twitter.com/Ruthie66
  • Blarg
Podcast link is broken now too. :( I wanted to listen to the 12/18 one since I never heard the Bromo call and was a huge fan of his. This is so depressing. I don't even know what to do. When do you think they'll make a statement? And where would they do this?? I can't find Ruth's Twitter and Facebook links.. anyone have links there?

Man, I just.. this feels like I lost family. We've had big layoffs at work lately, including my boss, and now this...
  • Randy
any one got ruth 66s twitter account info?
  • cheryl
I agree with everyone. I have been listening to DSC since I moved to S.D. in 1998. They are the absolute best show on the radio, and the radio in this town will suck greatly until they come back. I will follow them wherever they go. Thank goodness for my DSC CD & DVD collection.
  • Ses
This is messing my head up!!!!
  • eli
I'm not so sure Dave knew. He had an idea, but remember on the 12/18 show when Ruth mentioned something about "if you made it through yesterday you're ok, right?" and Dave shushed her a few times. I'm sure he knew something was up, but I don't think it was clear then.

Also, Ruthie's twitter mentioned something about yesterday being her last day of vacation, so either she didn't know, she's still doing something there, or she was told to say something like that.

I thought the Bromo-plenty of openings comment referred more to the commercial game winner Brandon from the day before (? I think?) and Brandon's Zoo in light of the other personnel decisions in the building.

Either way, that last show was a little too reminiscent for my taste. Hindsight.

This still works for me for Thursday podcasts: http://www.dscshow.com/podcast/dscthurs.xml but hurry up. I need the podcasts for work fuel. Very disappointed.
  • bill2
WOW, the Bromo whammy strikes again. I now go from 70 HRs a week listing to CC to 4, and thats if the chargers are playing. smooth move!
  • MikeB
I've cooled down since my last post and it does make a little more sense now. Dave did make some hints regarding a project he was working on, and the whole Bromo phone call seemed a bit odd with Dave jokingly telling Bromo there were plenty of openings. I can't blame CC for trying to save money, but I feel this is a huge mistake. I'm certain DSC will be back, but who knows if Boyer, Ruth and Emily will be back.Don't blow the big secret Ruth!!! Lets keep our fingers crossed!
  • Michelle
Born and raised in San Diego, never listened to any other station regularly, even bought a special antenna to get KGB in Vista, just to hear the DSC. Screw CC, yes business is business, but this can't bode well for their bottom line in the long run. Really, likening it to a 'divorce'... what do they think we are stupid. CC has more money than God! I've refused to pay for radio until now, so if the DSC moves to satellite, so will I and kiss KGB goodbye once and for all.
  • stephen
I called KOGO traffic tip line and asked if Ruth was still working traffic. The young female voice on the other end of the line said that it is unclear. If I were to bet the farm, DSC probably was offered a lucrative deal, but without Ruth 66 and "no voice in the head." Remember how Dave busted his backside to get Ruth back on the air after she was fired? Let's be patient. Meanwhile, in the National Bah...
  • talk2dj
Dave, pretty much hinted they were leaving the morning of December 18th when Bromo was being interviewed. Dave stated, "there are lots of openings here." With J&J never being picked up and Mikey being let go, the morning talk show is going bye bye quickly and finances are everything. Lets hope 94.9, 103.7 or 102.1 can work a relationship, but honestly, I DOUBT IT. The advertising business sucks.
  • Isaiah
I thought this was a joke as well, I thought no way they would let the best morning show in San Diego go?? I can understand business, but it doesn't make sense to let go of your best programming. There are a lot of things we don't know about the situation. It would have been nice to kind of been kept in the loop, to all of the loyal listners who have made the station what it is. Maybe thats why they allowed Bromo to come on and tell his story before the end of the year. Keep all of our fingers crossed that we can at least keep them in San Diego. So do I have to resort to "The Mikey Show"??? Seriously?? Hopefully an independent station will pick them up. It would be cool to see them go to an indi station for a less "lucrative" deal just to stick to Clear Channel.
  • BOO CLEAR CHANNEL! KGB is dead to me now. so bummed DSC is gone. hopefully they'll turn up on another san diego station, until then we await their return.
  • Lorinda Williams
I am shocked. I only listen to KGB, because of the DSC. I hope Dave will come out and make a statement; if they may resurface. I was so ready to hear them this a.m., and now my morning is off.
  • kaleto
I thought it was disengenuous of KGB to play DSC promos all during their 2 week break, knowing full well they wouldn't be returning. It's a shame, too, that DSC hits this bump in the road just when they were getting national exposure through their podcasts. Oh, well. It's not like this is the first time they had to move to a new station! I just hope they don't become syndicated--that would obviously ruin the local feel of the show.

All this local radio turmoil should be a lesson: This is what happens when a Texas billboard company tries to dominate San Diego radio. We need more independent stations!

If I were to bet the farm, DSC probably was offered a lucrative deal, but without Ruth 66 and "no voice in the head." Remeber how Dave busted his backside to get Ruth back on the air after she was fired? Someone please check Ruth's twitter and facebook activities and remind her to not talk about the DSC show. YEAH RUTH, DON'T BLOW IT!!! RUTH? RUTH? Let's be patient. Meanwhile, in the National Bah...
  • Brooke
Mike D - thanks for the suggestion. I just sent my feelings to the KGB general manager.
  • Sara
    BAD FORM on all parts!!
Bad form on KGB for not realizing what a gold mine they have in DSC.
Bad Form on DSC for not knowing the market and making a deal.

If Jeff and Jer were any indication of what is going on at CHEAP CHANNEL, they should have been smarter. Granted DSC is far more talented than J&J could ever hope to be, no one is above the wrath of the evil Lords of Clear Channel. I hope they land on the air somewhere in town and soon. 100.7 (JACK) or 103.5 (SOPHIE) would be smart to pick them up ASAP, as long as DSC knows they are NEVER going to make the same money they were.

They are three of the most talented people on the air and they are truly missed.
  • Here's one of the announcements Bryan Schock made this morning. Staticy since I live in central Poway...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZObeTiA4uI
  • Ross
Dave had mentioned in several broadcasts about his "project". They may be in the process of syndicating, or they may be holding out for more $$$. Either way they are at the top and will most likely be back. I would hate to have to listed to JohnJay and Rich just to enjoy the old DSC bits....yeck....I am hoping for the best out here in Texas.
  • Mark Yturralde
How freaking stupid is Clear Channel? If you don't see that DSC is the heart and soul of KGB, then enjoy being irrelevant. These guys will instantly make whichever station they go to number one overnight.

Hell, maybe the place they end up will even spring for gear and a phone system that works. KGB was notoriously cheap that way.
  • Happy New Year?
  • Ed
The DSC was the only reason I was still listening to KGB as well. This is really disappointing news!
  • jay
I've already emailed KGB with one simple message: lose the DSC and lose me . Lucrative offer? It was probably: "take this offer or leave". Clear Channel has one chance to redeem themselves, but being from Texas, I doubt they can even spell redeem.
  • Chris
They block that website at my work but I can still use my e-mail to write. What's the contact e-mail there ---I assume it's something @101kgn.com but what?
    http://www.101kgb.com/pages/contactus.html
  • Dave
Same here, I wont be touching the 101.5 button without the DSC. CC Sucks!
  • Jeni
The DSC is too good to not be heard! Boo KGB!
  • Mike D
For everyone on here, go to 101kgb's website and write them a complaint letter.
    I just did.

    http://www.101kgb.com/pages/contactus.html
  • Lynn
I feel like I've been punched in the gut this morning. I was so looking forward to the "what did you do over Christmas break" discussion this morning. This is terrible news... I feel like I've lost family members. See you wherever you surface DSC!!! Love you guys... love your show!!!!
  • mar
I already miss them, I truly hope they return again very soon. Where ever you are DSC & the rest of the show, my family and I love your show and want you back again!!
  • JT
Yes, it sucks that DSC is no longer on KGB. But if the suits at CC can't afford them, do you think any other radio station in SD can?......I bet they go to satellite radio somewhere.....look out Howard Stern!!!......
  • Susie
DSC was the ONLY reason I listened to KGB. The channel changed for the drive home.
  • rb
KGB's just another spot on the dial to flip through looking for a moments appeal. DSC had staying power. CC screwed up. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money. By the way, it's not "just business" to listeners; when will businesses like CC figure that out?
  • Bart
It looks like all the DSC content has now been removed from the KGB website. It was all there no more that 15 minutes ago (when I went looking for any details of the DSC's disappearance).

You don't have permission to access /pages/davesblog.html on this server.
You don't have permission to access /pages/theespot.html on this server.

My mornings just got a whole lot longer...
  • Liz
I had to double-check the calendar to make sure it's not April 1st. This really stinks. DSC was the ONLY reason I turned on my radio. I sure hope they resurface at another local station. They are great people with a great product, not to mention the wonderful charity work they do in the community. This is truly a sad, sad day. It is also a "business decision" that will backfire. Too many companies ignore the long-term ramifications of short-term savings. CC will certainly lose a ton of advertising revenue and many thousands of listeners. Brilliant...
  • MikeB
CC made a lucrative offer huh? What a load of crap. DSC, I know you guys will be back on the air in no time at all, and you will give a significant boost to whatever station you land at. I know the economy has been bad, but give me a break people, this is honestly ridiculous. Screw CC, I say boycott them, they have nothing substantial to offer the listeners any more...
  • Ken
They got the best deal to move to satellite. The signs of them leaving were there: no best of CD and they drained the “12 Days of Christmas” account before they went on vacation. Everyone at ClearChannel & DSC knew the show was going off the air before 12-18-09.
  • Edward
(In place of my previous comment)

NOW what do I do in the morning?

Seriously, not surprised at this. Been listening since they took over as Dawn Patrol from Berger and Prescott on KGB way back when the earth cooled.

They've been clearly displeased with Clear Channel for sometime. Not surprising that contract renewal would be an opportunity to move. Not surprising that Clear Channel with money alone would be able to coax them to stay.

Ruth's fiasco, etc. was further harbinger of this eventuality.

    They'll be back...soon.
  • stain
I like how their graphic is a carbon copy of the one they posted for Mikey. "Very Lucrative"....BS. Enjoy the ratings dive, CC. Morons.
  • SDLAWDAWG
Anybody think this is a publicity stunt or a New Year's joke, like the Space Shuttle landing at Lindberg Field??? Maybe, I am just hoping that is the story cause I just can't believe that ANY radio station including Muddy Water Incommunications would be stoopid enough to DUMP the #1 morning radio show...

If it isn't a stunt, then shame on everybody who didn't work hard enough to make it work.

So where did they go ? Any ideas?

    D.Mann
  • mredave
there goes one third of their broadcast day.....idiots. what were they thinking???
  • Edward
NOW what do I do in the morning?
  • Gurley
I've been listening to them since 1999. Even when I moved back to Memphis I always steamed the show at work. Now this just sucks. Dave dropped little hints just before the Christmas break so I guess negotiations had been going bad for awhile. They'll be back on the air soon, the only question is where.
  • Chris
I've only been listening since 2004 but I love these guys and feel like I have known them forever. 'Hope it all works out. Ideally they'd stay at KGB ---but based on the language of the above notice in red, it sounds unlikely.
  • Shannon
I knew there was trouble when they had no "Best Of" this year and especially after Mikey left his own show on KIOZ. San Diego radio is owned by CC, this is what corporate radio brings to the market. I hope the smaller independents thrive and we can promote them over the corporate crap that only looks at the bottom line. The bottom line today is that we are losing our good programing over very sub-standard, ever-looping songs driven by computers.
We will miss you DSC, but know you will return...
  • Toss me in the same boat with the rest of you. I'm utterly SHOCKED. I feel horrible... like I lost my own job or something. I realize I'll gain more perspective once I wake up... but without DSC to do it, I'm in a tough place. ;P DSC was the first morning show I felt was worth listening to since I left Chicago in 97. And I pretty much gave up on morning radio. Other morning shows were infantile and insipid. DSC was funny without resorting to stupidity (most of the time). I really hope they surface and SOON.
  • cj
Wow another radio station without a morning show? DSC rocked even when SD had plenty to choose from. I think Clear Channel messed their bed on this one. Yes it may be cheaper to play music in the morning but when you get rid of the best morning show in town, they just made 101.5 vanilla and thus advertising dollars can be distributed evenly emong the radio stations. I listened in the morning and night only because of the DCS. I am now surfing the dial searching for a good morning show now and it isnt the poor replacment that CC choose to replace them with. I like how they are attemptong to make it look like the DSC walked away from a great deal... Please do they really think were that stupid? Forget CC and demand more from your local radio then what they are providing!!! BOYCOTT CC
  • dava
I was totally freaked when I went to take my kids to school & no DSC. Whoever picks them up is one lucky station. I hope they're back on air soon.
  • Brooke
What a horrible way to start the new year! I love the DSC and have been listening to them since the Dawn Patrol days. I hope they resurface in San Diego soon.
  • Trisha
I agree with you Jorge. It's such a shame and I'll, too, be listening to Slacker Radio (http://www.slacker.com) a lot more.
  • DaveB
Wow. This is a huge surprise. Meanwhile, I am grabbing a bunch of the podcasts of the show to keep me moving in the morning!
  • Ses
I will miss them...but they will be back...I know it! They have too huge of a following here in SD and everywhere! They're the best! My mornings at work will crawl now without them....CC doesn't care how much The DSC helped the community of SD. GOOD therapy for the soul...
  • Denise
I've been listening to the DSC for twenty years, since my elementary school bus driver first played it. KGB has really screwed up. The DSC was the heart of their channel.
  • Rob
Was a big part of my morning routine. Even in Colorado Springs, CO
  • Chris
I turned on the radio at 6:10 and waited and waited and they never showed ----WTH? I hope it all works out and they don't end up on satellite radio. They definitely give me a boost on the way to work. And I agree with the rest of you that I rarely listen to KGB when they're not on. DSC rocks!
  • Frank
What a bunch of crap. DSC off the air. Mikey off The Mikey Show. Typical San Diego situation. Never pay the money for anyone to stay or the talent just leaves for more money. I guess greed is the monkey on DSC's back.
  • mredave
where did they go? have they signed anywhere else yet??
  • clayton
I felt sick this morning when my alarm clock turned on and there was music playing. When Mikey was booted from 105.3 I didn't care and figured he was full of crap about being low balled. Now seeing that DSC is gone, again after a "lucrative offer," I give him a little more credit.

If DSC is gone I don't know what I will do... I guess I will be listening to a lot more ESPN radio now...
  • Ed
Some one somewhere really blew it by not keeping DSC around. I miss them already and hope I can find them on another local station soon. KGB is not worth listening to anymore without them.
  • Helen
What a shock this was, this morning. Dave, Shelley and Chainsaw are the "only" reason I was listening to KGB. What a depressing way to start the new year.
  • Randy
well.. kiss KGB good bye! I agree with others... the ONLY reason for KGB was DSC..
I didnt listen to them other than in the morning drive. Maybe they will land at the "new" 91x ????
  • eli
I guess dl the podcasts while you still can. This really bums me out. Is there anywhere else to get info?
  • bholt
CC if you are reading this, there is now no reason for me to turn on terrestrial radio in San Diego, save maybe a Charger Game. What a bad move to cast off your anchor show, especially one with such a great reputation of community involvement. This will be a P.R. nightmare;; I wonder if you have done the math: - = Poor Business Decision.
  • JIm
Now there is no reason to listen to KGB. Clear Channel Sucks. Go back to Texas you bunch of Red Necks.
  • Susie
ARRRGGGG!! Don't do this to me! I depend on these guys to keep me awake on my morning commute!
  • Jim
Sounds like it was a money issue and they will not be back, at least for a long time. Where they landed is the mystery, or if the show was fractionated.
  • David
Let's hope this gets resolved quickly. I wonder if they're going to come back to KGB, since the website still has some DSC content on it (including on the home page)
  • Tabi
I already miss the DSC...Hope that the'll be on the air soon!
  • Jorgev
Since 2004 DSC was the only reason that I was still listening terrestrial radio and I also downloaded the App just for them. I'm not going to listen KGB no more, the last radio station that I was listening just for DSC, now I'm 100% of the time with Slacker, 66RAW or O&A on XM.
  • Dan
Unbelievable!!! What a crappy way to start the new year! w/o the DSC! I agree, whatever station picks them up will have an immediate and large audience to sell to! CC are clearly fools! -Dan
  • stain
CC "made a lucrative offer" my ass. If they wanted them to stick around they would have made them a "real" offer and not lowball them. As Bill said, whoever they end up with will be #1 instantly, espcially with J&J gone. Good riddance Clear Channel. You screwed up. I have no reason to listen to KGB anymore.
  • Angela
Ditto to what Bill said!! The only reason I listened to the KGB was because of the DSC.
  • [SDRadio] Dave, Shelly, and Chainsaw MISSING http://blog.sdradio.net/726/dave-shelly-... DSC missing from 101.5 KGB; suggested they are off the air
  • chslaw
@SDRadio Wow...the San Diego radio landscape sure is changing.
  • thea2u
@SDRadio I am in shock that the DSC is gone. never saw it coming. Then again it's a CC station.
  • Bill
What ever station picks them up, will be the number one station in SD. Hurry up guys and get back on the air!
